Leroy McCullough

Introducing one of our candidates for President, Leroy McCullough. Leroy is majoring in Cybersecurity.

A few words from Leroy:

"Hello, my name is Leroy. I'm from Bishopville, South Carolina and I lived in South East Asia for 6 months. My plan is to add more color to the student government."

Andre Ochoa

Introducing one of our candidates for President, Andre Ochoa. Andre is majoring in Psychology & Sociology/Social Science.

A few words from Andre:

"Aloha UHWO students, Faculty, and Staff members; my name is Andre Ochoa and I'm seventeen years old and a Sophomore at University of Hawaii at West Oahu. I'm currently majoring in Psychology and Sociology which is a part of social sciences. I'm currently reside in Waianae of the island of Oahu living my three brothers, one sister, Mom and her Fiance. One interesting fact about myself is that I graduated high school early and took early college classes. Hobbies may include sports (Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Football, even Track and Field), Listening to music and watching TV and movies.

I've been involved with ASUHWO since Spring semester as the Sophomore Class Senator and Secretary. I've volunteered over ninety hours of community service. Some Places may be the Waianae Distribution, Papahanakualoa, urban garden, and much more. What I love about about UHWO is the online classes and different events that the school provides. One thing that UHWO can improve on is student engagement and how to get more students involved. The goal I want to accomplish is student engagement, Counting 200 level writing intensives classes for class requirements, and healthy food options in the vending machines."

Shu

Introducing one of our candidates for Vice President, Shu. Shu is majoring in Business Administration.

A few words from Shu:

"As a returning-to-school student, a year ago I became a dual-campus student between Hon CC & UHWO, taking steps to do an encore career for something that aligns with what I really love and opening doors in business. The faculty and staff have been amazing at UHWO. I've never been at a campus with such collaborative, warm and welcoming individuals. I grew up in Liliha/Chinatown/Nuuanu and still reside in town, so these online classes are a blessing! As the 10th senate vice-president, I found some areas that needed a little bit of work and undertook a few things where discussions were started but dropped.
I hope to finish updating the founding documents revisions to reflect best & current practices, like going digital during COVID-19. My interests are learning, reading, and finding out how things work - which helped me be organized and streamline various organizations for efficiency and ease of access to documents and materials. When I have time, I enjoy volunteering and have done so in many capacities from triathlon aid station support, Great Aloha Run starting line crowd control, monthly garden/cooking lesson leader, film festival operations/theatre operations, farm labor preparing/ amending/planting/ weeding/ harvesting, preparing kits for family fairs, and catering/cooking, set-up and break-down. I raised a child as a single parent, which took strategic thinking, perseverance, action, and focusing on others when taking initiative. My jobs, parenting, and volunteer work skills plus some abstract thinking transfer over easily to problem solving and I'm hopeful that I'm able to benefit UHWO students to realize their dreams with the least amount of struggle and help them find resources or solutions to get through their academics with the most benefit and not so much cost."

Malie Moe

Introducing one of our candidates for Vice President, Malie Moe. Malie is majoring in Sociology/Social Sciences.

A few words from Malie:

"Aloha my name is Malie Moe I am Senior here at UHWO, growing up on Nanakuli Homestead I would have never thought I’d go to college and major in Sociology. But here I am today as first-generation Sociology major running as a Vice President candidate for ASUHWO. An interesting fact about myself is that I have been a legal guardian caring for my two-younger sisters since August of 2019. Some of my hobbies are spending time with my ‘Ohana from Waianae and Molokai.
Here at UHWO, I appreciate the communication of my collogues, especially in the organizations I’ve been involved with this Spring 2022 semester. Every organization can be improved but it’s really up to the leaders who make it happen for us.
Currently I am serving as the Social Science Senator for ASUHWO and would like to continue my journey next fall 2022 to learn and grow more in this organization.

Mohala i ka wai ka maka o ka pua is a Hawaiian saying that reminds us that “flowers thrive where there is water, as thriving people are found where living conditions are good.” (Pukui, 1983, #2178).
As a Social Science Senator of ASUHWO 10th Senate I have experienced and learned that human beings really do thrive where the living conditions are safe. Being invited by President Gabby Navalta to join ASUHWO while volunteering last Fall 2021 commencement I felt safe enough to take that chance. If given the opportunity to become the Vice President of ASUHWO for Fall 2022 I hope to bring safe environments for all students to thrive in ASUHWO."

Cassie Hardin

Introducing our candidate for Senior Class Senator, Cassie Hardin. Cassie is majoring in Information Security and Assurance.

A few words from Cassie:

"My name is Cassandra Hardin and I am an incoming fourth year student, majoring in Information Security and Assurance (ISA). I am originally from the North Shore, but now I live in Kapolei. An interesting fact about me is that I am an otaku.
I do have prior leadership experience as I have been in ASUHWO for 2.5 years and I have been in Pueo Gaming and Pueo Leadership for 2 years.

What I really enjoy about UHWO is the class sizes and the clubs, however I feel like that UHWO could improve on providing more services and opportunities to students. My main goal that I would like to accomplish as an ASUHWO member is to continue to address the main concerns of students. I hope to do my best to continue to address the main concerns of students. Nice to meet you."

Adrian Agsalda

Introducing our candidate for Business Administration Senator, Adrian Agsalda. Adrian is majoring in Business Administration/Marketing.

A few words from Adrian:

"Hello! My name is Adrian Agsalda, I am currently a junior majoring in Business Administration - Marketing. I was born and raised right here in Hawai’i and my hometown is Wahiawa. My hobbies include working out and reading books.

I am currently involved in the Pueo Leadership Program as a peer mentor, and I plan on continuing to serve. I love serving alongside my friends and it’s even better that we can make a difference in helping first-year students. I love a lot of things about UHWO; the helpful staff, the campus resources, gigantic parking lot(s), the campus architecture, school colors, you name it. As we continue to pivot to in-person learning, I believe that UHWO has lost some of its spirit in the past two years. For quite some time, the campus had remained a skeleton of its former self and not only has the campus been physically affected by the pandemic but also a lot of student organizations have been forced to become in-active.

If elected as Business Administration Senator, my focus would be on reviving what it means for students to have an in-person experience at UHWO. I think we need to envision the near-future of a post-covid environment where in-person learning and events would become possible again.

My ultimate goal is to leave UHWO in a better place than when I found it. This is a principle that I have learned in the Pueo Leadership Program. I believe it is a mantra said by one of my advisors, Mr. Joe Mareko. There are so many wonderful staff and personnel at UHWO that have a lot of pride in the institution and I want to be a part of it. It may not be a huge part but I want to have the opportunity to serve my campus well, not only for the students enrolled at UHWO today, but also for the next cohort of students, and the next, and so on."

Abbie Reed

Introducing our candidate for Creative Media Senator, Abbie Reed. Abbie is majoring in Creative Media Communications and New Media Technologies.

A few words from Abbie:

"My name is Abbie Kahula Reed--native born and raised in Waimānalo, Oʻahu. I am grateful for my homestead life in Kapolei, just five minutes from school. My four children after college now live industrious lives raising their families--from which I benefited five grandchildren. Iʻm retired from the 8 - 5 life raising a family and now walk a new path to living my best life with unlimited possibilities. I look forward to making dreams come true with the degree I pursue in Creative Media Communications and New Media Technology.

In retrospect, my six-decade-past validates an old conjecture that everything happens for a reason. Insights gathered from lessons and experiences of past failures and triumphs light my college path and future. My old eyes now see new solutions to unresolved problems left behind through the lens of creative media. As a storyteller and designer born to create without limits, the potential of possibilities is only limited to the imagination. I am anxious to imagine and affect positive change at UH West Oʻahu, in my community and in the world."

Voting for ASUHWO General Elections for the 11th Senate will be April 18-22, 2022 via UH E-mail.
