Freshman Class Senator Candidate
Alyssa Cabingas
Major: General Business Administration
Class Standing: Freshman
Hobbies & Interests: Hiking, going to the beach, doing community service/volunteering, reading, painting, being around family, listening to music, eating, working, etc.

As a new transfer student from San Jose, California, I'd love nothing more but to be involved in school activities and getting to know my fellow classmates. As being part of the ASUHWO, I would strive to provide all the help and support needed for this beautiful campus and people. Not only would I be providing for the school, ASUHWO would also be a major help to me by expanding and strengthening my knowledge. I've been in multiple clubs and jobs that has taught me how to provide positive energy, great communication skills, and leadership skills. Aside from school activities, I'm the oldest sibling of 5, which has also shaped me into the person I am today by being a good example on how to be a leader.

Major: Accounting
Class Standing: Junior

I am running for student government because I hope to be a voice for all students no matter where they are on their educational journey. Being a full-time mom and full-time student, I understand the obstacles faced on the road to graduation, and hope that I could help to make changes or improve upon initiatives that help students be able to overcome those obstacles and utilize the resources we have at UH-West Oahu.

Jaicelynn Aleka

Major
: Public Administration-Justice Administration
Class Standing: Junior
Hobbies & Interests: Going to the movies, reading, eating, and spending time with family and friends.

For the past three summers I was a student mentor for a Summer Bridge Program, called E Holomua a 'Onipa'a. This program is dedicated to influence and motivate recent high school students particularly from the Wai'anae Coast with their transition to college, while incorporating Hawaiian cultural values. As a student mentor my responsibility was to provide guidance, motivation, emotional support, and be a role model to my mentees. Not only was I a student mentor for this program, but I was also an alumni who joined in 2015. E Holomua a 'Onipa'a has changed me into the person that I am today and it gives me great pleasure that I was able to assist students from my very own community. Being a part of ASUHWO will give me the opportunity to enhance my leadership skills, networking opportunities, and allow me to engage with diverse groups of people. My goal, if I were to be elected for Senator of Public Administration, is to become an advocacy for students and their voice when things are in need of change.

Anthony Amos (right)
Social Sciences Senator Candidate
Anthony Amos
Major: Sociology, Political Science
Class Standing: Sophomore
Hobbies & Interests: I love to write, volunteer, play sports, and spend time with family and friends.

I have previously operated within this particular position, while also acting as President for the Leaves of Opportunity; the Vice President for the Film Club; a liaison for the NAACP; and making it my mission to unify the RISO organizations on campus. I have recently become a member of the NSLS and many other honors that have been blessed to me. With my experience and work ethic, I wish to become the senator to contribute what I know I can, rather than last year. There will be change.

Distance Education Senator Candidate
Justin Hill
Major: Political Science
Class Standing: Junior

I am a Distance Education student, taking all of my classes through Laulima and Hālāwai. I love being part of the University of Hawaiʻi - West Oʻahu community and our atmosphere of ʻohana, whether on campus or online. I will work to make sure DE students feel as much a part of the UHWO community as students coming to class on campus.

I was a journalist for a decade before returning to school. I graduated from LCC this past spring as a Ke Ala ʻIke scholar with Associate degrees in Hawaiian Studies and Liberal Arts. I currently serve as board secretary for Mālama Mākua, a non-profit working for the preservation and return of sacred Mākua Valley for culturally-appropriate use. Along with my devotion to family, school and Mālama Mākua, I am also helping with a multi-year research project concerning the impact and place in history of Hui Hawaiʻi Aloha ʻĀina.

Caitlin Tachibana
Major: Public Administration, Health Care Administration
Class Standing: Sophomore

Hi, my name is Caitlin Tachibana and I live on the island of Kaua'i. I am currently a Distance Education student. As a Distance Education student who lives on another island, I can understand where the students are coming from. While I was a student at Kaua'i Community College, I was a member of Student Government in 2013 and I was secretary for the Hawaiian Club in 2014. My experience with Student Government at Kaua'i Community College is what made me realize that students concerns need to be heard and actions need to be taken. If elected for the position of Distance Education Senator, my goal is to make sure that Distance learners voices are heard and to let them know that ASUHWO is here for them.
