CANDIDATES BIOGRAPHY
President Candidate
Sydney Millerd Major: Sustainable Community Food Systems & Political Science
Class Standing: Junior Of the many great qualities of UHWO, my favorites would be the local, aloha-filled atmosphere and the drive of its students. As the ASUHWO President, I’d strive to help to continue to enhance the environment, resources, and activities needed to support these special qualities of this campus. Currently, I am serving as this year’s ASUHWO Junior Class Senator and using what I’ve learned and the experiences that I’ve gained while in this position, I’d apply them to my role as president. Additionally, this semester I am the student intern to the Office of the Governor at the State Capitol and I can apply those experiences to the position as well. |
Vice President Candidate
Taimane Revolorio Major: Accounting
Class Standing: Senior I am running for student government because I hope to be a voice for all students no matter where they are on their educational journey. Being a full-time mom and full-time student, I understand the obstacles faced on the road to graduation, and hope that I could help to make changes or improve upon initiatives that help students be able to overcome those obstacles and utilize the resources we have at UH-West Oahu. |
Senior Class Senator Candidate
Derek Saffery Major: Social Science - Sociology & Psychology Class Standing: Senior A trait that I believe defines a good leader is their ability to positively impact those around them. As a tutor at the No'eau Center, our job isn't to just help our peers get a good grade on their paper or to help them pass their class. Instead, we strive to further their personal growth as a student in whatever subject they’re taking. I would like to take that one step further as a potential member of the ASUHWO. In all honesty, I’ve never been a student government position before; however, I would like to bring with me the knowledge and skills I’ve developed between the military and as a tutor to not only better those around me, but to better myself as well. |
Business Administration Senator Candidate
Alyssa Cabingas Major: Business Administration - General
Prior to running for the Business Administration Senator, I am currently the Freshman Senator for ASUHWO. I chose to run for a different position to further my academic journey, focusing specifically on this division. While already being involved with many of the events held on campus, I will continue to be available and make the voices of this campus be heard. I enjoy nothing more than being a helping hand and meeting new people in the process. My first official year here at UHWO has been amazing and I’m looking forward to continuing my journey through ASUHWO. |
Public Administration Senator Candidate
Torie Lee Guadiz Major: Health Care Administration
Class Standing: Junior Hobbies: Baking, gardening, soaking in the ocean, walking, most of all family I have been the fundraising coordinator for my children's youth group for about three years now. We have raised about five to eight thousand dollars annually. I am running because it is a fantastic opportunity to get my feet wet in administration at some capacity while I am still in school. I have been a stay at home mom for eighteen years so gaining even a little experience will help build the confidence of a prospective employer. If elected I hope to bridge any gaps between students and staff if necessary and seek opportunities to build relationships between the two. I would enjoy the opportunity to engage in Senate actives and work to improve campus life to the best of my ability. |
Social Science Senator Candidate
Cody Rex Major: Economics
Class Standing: Junior I have been a student here at UH West Oahu for a few years now and I’m looking for the opportunity to take a more active role on Campus and in my Community. I have long had an interest in Politics and in addition to this campaign I am also running for a seat on my Neighborhood Board. In the future, I hope to use the experience I gain from these roles to better myself and to improve the experiences for other students on Campus. |
