Candidate for President
Candidate: Lindsey Millerd

Aloha! I’m Lindsey Millerd. I’m from Waipahu and am currently in my fourth year of college. I transferred around quite a bit, starting out in California with environmental engineering, returning home and getting my A.S. in sustainable agriculture from Leeward CC, and now at UH West Oahu majoring in Hawaiian and Indigenous Health and Healing. I currently serve as the Math, Health, and Sciences Senator for ASUHWO and the Assistant Secretary for the Honolulu Youth Commission. I volunteer at events like beach clean-ups, garden workdays, and farmer’s markets. A few hobbies of mine include thrifting, gardening and playing the bassoon in the UHWO university band. I also enjoy journalism and work as an editor for Ka Manao, Leeward’s student publication, and write for The Hoot here at UHWO.
I appreciate the down-to-earth environment and supportive staff at UHWO. I’m especially glad that the school has unique programs like the major I’m pursuing and that the campus is largely grounded in Hawaiian culture. The school could improve its infrastructure, student health resources and social opportunities. I’m interested in furthering our sustainability efforts like creating community garden plots and installing more solar panels on buildings or over our parking lot. For student health, I’m currently pushing for a campus food pantry, accessible feminine hygiene products, and in the future want to help expand our gym facilities. I will also support the Student Activity Fee Board in putting on larger activities that can bring our whole campus together. As president, I will ensure that any students feel welcome to share their concerns and ideas so we can all work together to make our campus the best it can be. Mahalo!

Candidate for Vice President
Candidate: Mikaela Briones

Aloha! I'm Mikaela "Mika" Briones, I am a senior in the Creative Media division, with a concentration in General Creative Media. I'm from Wai‘anae and graduated from Wai‘anae High School. During the Spring 2023 semester, I held the role of Creative Media senator in the senate. I enjoy watching new movies and trying out different things. I'm currently an intern for the Communications department here at UH West O‘ahu and have had the opportunity to serve as the editor for our campus newspaper - The Hoot. I love everything about UH West O‘ahu - the classes, the people, and the campus itself. I believe that UH West O‘ahu can definitely improve, in student life and participation. There has been a dip in participation since the beginning of the pandemic (for obvious reasons). But as we continue through it, and more activities are being held in person, I believe we can do our best to encourage participation, even virtually. My goals that I'd like to accomplish in student government would be to help create a solid foundation for student government and take issues (issues that students may not even realize are issues), create solutions, and act out those solutions for the student body. It would be a great opportunity to serve as Vice President for my last semester here.

Candidate for Senior Class Senator
Candidate: Jasika Gouveia

Hello everyone! I am Jasika Azley Gouveia. I am a senior majoring in Applied Science, HP, Pre-Medical Track. I lived half my life being born in the Phillippines and the other half raised here in Hawaii. One interesting fact about me is that I can speak four languages. My hobby is gaining new hobbies. I joined the Hawaii Pre-Health Career Corps last year, and it has been a fantastic experience, especially since I spent most of my time at the John A Burns School of Medicine. One of my goals is to become a medical student there. One thing I love about the University of Hawaii-West Oahu is the campus being open with fresh air and how they care about every student. I noticed that ever since I started college during the pandemic. One area that needs improvement is the sports and clubs category. There should be more clubs to help students gain experience that is necessary for their future careers. I had to find and search for occasions to help improve my resume. Many organizations help students earn scholarships and opportunities with students that enter or have a low GPA. I have liked to help other people ever since I was young. I can be a friendly and fun person to talk to. It makes me happy to make other people happy.
