- Open Educational Resources (OER)
Open Educational Resources (OER) are 'teaching, learning, and research resources that reside in the public domain or have been released under an intellectual property license that permits their free use and re-purposing by others.'
The OER Committee is currently raising awareness of OER and hopes to offer training and workshops for faculty starting in 2019, encouraging the adoption of more OER textbooks. - Textbook Cost: $0 (TC: $0) - Course Identification and Transparency
"Textbook Cost: $0" is the designation for a class that does not require students to purchase any course materials out of pocket. Course materials include textbooks, bundled access codes, supplemental readings, homework or testing modules, etc. This designation enables students to make more informed choices that could reduce the overall cost of their education. ASUHWO is assisting the OER Committee in heavily promoting this list. - Lending Library of Textbooks for High-Enrolled (HE) Courses
Funding from ASUHWO and a Title III grant will fund the purchase of textbooks for HE courses. Those textbooks will then be placed on Course Reserve in the Library, to allow for maximum student usage.
Lending Library Initiative
The University of Hawai'i - West O'ahu Library (UHWO) provides reserve services to promote student access to required materials for their courses. ASUHWO is sponsoring the upcoming collection of textbooks through the Open Educational Resources (OER) Initiative by providing funding to update the Lending Library with new list of items for the following semester.
The full list of items currently on Course Reserves can be accessed through this link. This list continues to be updated as requests are made and processed.
**If you do not see your course items on the current list, it is highly suggested that you ask your instructor if they can place a copy of the textbook(s) on Course Reserves.
More information can be found by clicking on the button link below, or ask a library staff and your fellow ASUHWO officers (asuhwo@hawaii.edu) about the Lending Library Initiative.
